Health Care Politics – Why understanding it matters!

Conny, a proud Kinesiologist is a health care leader and advocate. She has been the owner of Work Wellness a national ergonomic and wellness consulting company for 30 years.

Conny has always understood that health touches all aspects of our lives and that accessibility to health services should be a fundamental right. In Ontario, when access to Kinesiology services were threatened she lead the bid for regulation as the President of the OKA once this was achieved became the Inaugural President for the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario in 2013.

Her work for Kinesiology gained her recognition with the government and others. She was subsequently asked to comment on regulation of PSWs, and on rehabilitation billing to the province. Conny consulted with several other professions on regulatory matters and has continued her advocacy and political work. She was actively involved in working on the MSD Prevention Guideline for Ontario and has been recognized as an Educational Influential by the Institute for Work and Health for 20 years.

Conny broaden her advocacy in health care, becoming Chair of the Board for youth mental health agency, and becoming a legal aid area reviewer, making decisions on support for family and health care cases. In 2016 she was appointed to the Board of Public Health a position she still holds. Conny was also a member of the Rehabilitative Care Alliance, the body advising government on rehabilitation services. In 2022 she published a top 10 article for the year in Occupational Health and Safety Canada on Cognitive Health.

Currently Conny is a Councillor for the City of Kingston and an active member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities where she advocates for policies that support health via affordable housing, environmental protections, and social equity.
